Original, well-developed concepts are key to standing apart from the crowd and carving out a career in unscripted content. Irad Eyal emphasizes the importance of producers developing their own ideas. Below, we’ll highlight four key lessons from Irad Eyal’s decades of experience. Recently, Irad was kind enough to sit down with Wrapbook co-founder, Cameron Woodward, and chat about what it takes to produce unscripted television. His credits include Floor Is Lava, Secrets & Wives, The Big Fib, and Southern Charm, among many others. Through his production company Haymaker West (formerly Haymaker Content), Irad has been moving behind the scenes on a wide range of shows. There, he went from producing web content for Xena: Warrior Princess to pitching his very first television program, a segment of the anthology series X-Chromosome that he describes as “a puppet show about women’s prison.”įrom that wildly unique start, Irad Eyal has built a standout career in unscripted programming. Irad dipped his toes into production at the Oxygen Network during the dot-com boom of the late '90s. Irad Eyal has been exploring the limits of unscripted TV for over 20 years. While the competition series is a nice new notch in his belt, it’s certainly not the first. His most recent hit, Floor Is Lava, became the most watched show on Netflix upon its debut and remained in the top 10 for more than three weeks. Irad Eyal is a prolific producer of unscripted television. Again, refer to the plugin’s documentation pages to see example configuration snippets and explore all of the different customization options. (For my Synology setup, the easiest approach was to download the file through the web panel, edit it locally on my Mac, and then upload it back to the NAS’s storage.) This single file lists all the various parameters for all of the HomeKit accessories you want to expose.įor the Broadlink plugin, we need to add an entry to the platforms array of the JSON object and define the accessories inside of that. You can access this file through the file system, and edit it using a text editor. Homebridge is managed using a configuration file called config.json. This is wholly separate to the Homebridge plugin configuration, so you don’t need to bother with it. You have to use Broadlink’s app to connect the blaster to the WiFi network, but don’t bother actually setting up any accessories using Broadlink’s app. The Broadlink RM is about the size of an Apple TV, so it’s quite small and discreet. The blaster needs to have line-of-sight to the fan, but it doesn’t have to be dead on. This downloads the appropriate package and installs it to your system automatically.Īt this point, plug in your IR blaster in the same room as the accessory (or accessories) you intend to control. To install the plugin, I opened up a terminal command line in the Homebridge console of the Synology web interface, and typed: Helpfully, the plugin has extensive documentation of its own, so it’s quite easy to follow along. Then, the next step is to install the Homebridge plugin which knows how to connect to the Broadlink RM IR blaster. You can find complete installation instructions for Homebridge on Synology here. I elected to install Homebridge on my Synology NAS, which is always running as our house’s Plex media server anyway. You can run Homebridge on a Mac, a Rasberry Pi, pretty much anything that can act as an always-on server. The first step is to set up a Homebridge server itself if you don’t have one already. How to set up an Infrared accessory in HomeKit using Homebridge All the IR stuff is wrapped up neatly in a Homebridge plugin and this means it will show up in my HomeKit home like any other accessory. The fan will see the incoming IR and dutifully perform the commands. In the end, the blaster will essentially send out the same Infrared codes as the fan’s remote. Instead, the plan was to connect the Broadlink RM to Homebridge using this community plugin. However, the app is terrible and I have no interest in using it. The RM connects to WiFi, so you can connect to it from an app and beam out Infrared commands remotely. The key to all of this is an IR blaster called the Broadlink RM. ( What is Homebridge? Homebridge is a third-party, unofficial, bridge server that can expose all sorts of accessories to the HomeKit platform.) Instead, I bought a fan with an Infrared remote control specifically because my plan was to use Homebridge. This means a smart plug is not the solution. You then have to press another button to actually start up the fan. When you plug them into power, which is what a smart plug is effectively emulating, they just sit there. As they have settings like fan speed and oscillation to manage, they don’t simply turn on when the power turns on. Unfortunately, tower fans are not so simple. The smart plug toggles the power on and off at your command, so it’s perfect for things like floor lamps. With a HomeKit smart plug, you can very quickly add smarts to a lot of accessories. The most obvious route to add a dumb appliance to the HomeKit ecosystem is to use a smart plug. I bought a standard fan with an IR remote control and set out to induct it into my HomeKit home using Homebridge… Unfortunately, there aren’t really any to speak of.Īfter years of waiting, and a particularly hot summer, I gave up and explored the enthusiast route. There are some HomeKit ceiling fans already on sale, but what I’ve been holding out for is a HomeKit tower fan for my office. Theoretically, HomeKit supports fans as a smart home accessory. so exciting!!! #gdnroywedħ.39am: Let's kick things off with a summary of developments overnight: no sign of crowd yet but slowly building thru day. If you find yourself in the beautiful Lake Tahoe area, whatever the season make sure to take the short trip to Fallen Leaf Lake - a quick 10 minutes from downtown South Lake Tahoe but miles away from the hustle and bustle. I think he understood why it’s always been such a special place for me. I felt so lucky to be able to share the experience with my husband and was thrilled that this was his first look at this place he’d hear me talk so much about. When I first saw this view of my beloved lake, covered in fresh, white snow with a soft mist rising off the water, I fell in love with it all over again. And what a different lake it is in the winter! The campground is closed during the winter months, so you can park at the entrance and snowshoe through the campground to a short trail leading to the lake. The mountain is perched in California at an elevation of 6,236ft. It was only years later, as an adult living on the East Coast returning to Tahoe with my husband in tow, that I got to experience Fallen Leaf Lake in a whole new way: in winter. Fallen Leaf reports 0 of new snowfall today, and the ground is bare with a 0 snowpack. Growing up in Sacramento, my family and I were frequent visitors to Lake Tahoe and spent many a summer weekend camping at the Fallen Leaf Lake campground, my brothers and I riding our bikes around the loops and swimming in the cool, crystal-blue lake. And the jewel of the Lake Tahoe area has to be the amazing Fallen Leaf Lake. After Thailand, my favorite place in the world is the incomparable Lake Tahoe. Today's passengers demand more extraordinary airport service and are inclined to choose alternative modes of transport once unsatisfied ( Halpern and Mwesiumo, 2021). The findings illustrate the effectiveness of leveraging online reviews and offer practical implications for what matters to air travelers, especially in the COVID-19 context.Īs the connection between passengers and the sky, airports are an indispensable component of the air transportation network ( Barakat et al., 2021). Additionally, the effect of access, wayfinding, facilities, and environment on rating significantly differs between the two periods. Through correlation and regression analysis, this study demonstrates that rating is significantly related to check-in, environment, and personnel in pre-and post-COVID periods. The lexical salience-valence analysis (LSVA) is then applied to explain such changes by tracking the sentiment of frequent words in reviews. Through sentiment analysis, Google Maps reviews show more positive sentiment toward environment and personnel but remain constant about facilities during COVID-19. To do so, this study develops a topical ontology of keywords regarding ASQ attributes and uses a sentiment tool to derive passengers' attitudes. Therefore, this paper adopts a data-driven crowdsourcing approach to study ASQ during the COVID-19 pandemic by investigating Google Maps reviews from the 98 busiest U.S. Surveying travelers' attitudes is useful for ASQ assessment but collecting responses could be time-consuming and costly. Since the COVID-19 health crisis has unprecedentedly influenced airport regulations and operations, effective measurement of ASQ has become crucial for airport administrations. Airport service quality (ASQ) is a competitive advantage for airport management in today's airport market. Frequent trips into New York to play at CBGB helped net the band a deal with Radioactive Records in 1991. The group remained together throughout high school, going through a handful of band names and new-wave covers before settling on the moniker Public Affection and recording a self-released cassette of originals, The Death of a Dictionary, in 1989.
